Deep & Delicious!

I read this today during our "TTR" time at school. (our school tries to encourage our kids to read by having a required "Time to Read" 21 period slotted - the WHOLE school is SILENT for 21 minutes, reading material in hand - yes, some try to slip a nap in, but hey....for TTR, i am thankful and seize the moment!)

Back to what i read.........I am reading C.S. Lewis' "Mere Christianity" for the first time - it has been on my " i want to read" list for several years. I like deep stuff like this....it makes you look under those rocks and in corners and recesses of our hearts...I love how the Lord has lead great men and women before us - and as they sought and found answers, we get to glean from their studies...and be enriched!

Today, on page 113....Lewis writes:
"(God) is not in the least worried about His dignity. The point is, He wants you to know Him: wants to give you Himself. And He and you are two things of such a kind that if you really get into any kind of touch with Him you will, in fact, be humble-delightedly humble, feeling the infinite relief of having for once got rid of all the silly nonsense about your own dignity which has made you restless and unhappy all your life. His is trying to make you humble in order to make this moment possible: trying to take off a lot of silly, ugly, fancy-dress in which we have all got ourselves up and are strutting about like the little idiots we are. I wish I got a bit further with humility myself: if I had, I could probably tell you more about the relief, the comfort, of taking the fancy-dress off--getting rid of the false self, with all its "Look at me" and "Aren't I a good boy?" and all its posing and posturing. To get even near it, even for a moment, is like a drink of cold water to a man in a desert."

Ahhhhh, isn't that GREAT! Come to the Living Water(JESUS!)...and Drink up!

I have to try to read that book again. My brother loves those books and seems to gravitate to the dry, textbook like books. I have tried Andrew Murry and Watchmen Nee and several that read this way and it takes me forever to wake through them. You make it sound wonderful!
