15 Weeks Without

Good Morning Blog World,

It's the beginning of a new semester for me; Lord Willing, it is my second to last to finish my program! I am so excited I can hardly contain it. This semester will be another walk through some rich learning as well as further transforming! What a privilege to study under such wise professors and participate in a Christ-centered, grace-filled community. I thank the Lord everyday for this experience!

This semester I am taking three very significant courses: sexuality counseling, addictions counseling and systematic theology. The latter will definitely keep me grounded as I walk through the emotional challenge of the first two!

As of this morning, I have attended one of those courses, addictions; the class has put up this challenge -- to give up something that would be difficult to give up, for the length of the course. If we will be counseling clients to give up addictions to something for the rest of their life, it may be beneficial for us to experience what it is like to cut off something we "depend" on for 15 weeks. The first thing that came to my mind was coffee, then Facebook! Coffee would cause me physical pain at first, I am sure; facebook would cause me emotional anxiety. But, which one should I do? That's a tough one. Yet, I feel the strings of attachment to both challenging me to DO it. The first of many tests.... if i give up facebook, you KNOW I will be blogging a LOT more!

Yet, this whole experiment really points to the fact that these things can become idols of sorts in my life. THAT is a challenging thought.... seriously sobering.

For another class I am reading "The Normal Christian Life" by Watchman Nee. I have tried reading this at other times in my life but now that I have to read it for a class, I am more focused and greatly enjoying it. Here is one line I underlined this morning, "One thing is certain, that any true experience of value in the sight of God must have been reached by way of a new discovery of the meaning of the Person and work of the Lord Jesus." Reminds me of Paul's prayer in Ephesians 1:17, may we have the Spirit of wisdom and revelation that we may know Him More! He is the KEY.

So, pondering these things, I think giving up Facebook for the semester may be what I should do. It kind of clutters my life, it dulls my ears and eyes and I don't want to miss ANYTHING God has for me this semester or EVER. So, if you want to contact me, email or call or text or LEAVE A COMMENT on my blog! (I love those!) :-)

May you have His Spirit of Wisdom and Revelation to know Him More!

Tammie, I will be praying for you. I am a facebook addict.....it keeps me posted not only on friends but missionaries. There are many other things I should give up such as TV and ice cream. sounds like your professor's idea is really good.
